Department of Computer Science & IT


The department of Computer Science & I.T. frequently organizes various extra mural lecture series “Vidyamritham” in which the sessions are handled by eminent personalities who are proficient and renowned in different CS and IT related areas. The CSI group of the department often organizes various events, conferences, workshops, Hands-on trainings, Exhibitions and other technical activities and keeps a good track record under the CSI Cochin chapter. The Department also has a sturdy Cyber Security Club - Bi0s Kochi. The club's main purpose is to provide students who are interested in cyber security with the technical resources needed to advance their computer security careers. The club achieves this mission by organizing monthly meetings to discuss and practice hands-on cyber security concepts including, but not limited to, network security, digital forensics, penetration testing, secure coding, cryptography, and reverse engineering. The department has introduced "AmriTa BiT" - a new methodology of evaluating projects done by final year Computer Science students through an open exhibition of students final project work. Through this venture, every student gets a chance to exhibit their flair and understandings to others.

The Computer Science& IT Department of Amrita School of Arts and Sciences in association with the Computer Society of India [CSI] conducted a Vidyamritham Session on “ Machine Learning & Deep Learning” on 29th October 2019. The session was handled by Dr. Amrit Krishnan, Doctorate from IIT, Kharagpur and currently pursuing his Post Doctoral Research from The session gave an overall insight on the various concepts of Machine Learning as ell as Deep Learning.

Vidyamritham:Cloud Hosting Techniques

A Vidyamritham session on “Cloud Hosting Techniques’ was conducted for the Computer Science and IT department students by Mr. Sathish Menon, He is currently working as consultant in many corporate firms. To name a few, Mr Sathish Menon is currently acting as the Node Architect at Updopt Solutions, CTO at Soothika Solutions for Mother and Child care, Palarivattom, Consultant at Edubrisk, a Cloud-based Learning Platform, Kadavantra, Technical Consultant at Infinicomm Solutions, and IoT and AI service provider, Kakkanad. The workshop was organized by the Department of Computer Science and IT of Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi in association with the Computer Society of India on 3rd August, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the College Campus. Mr Sathish Menon gave a clear cut idea on different techniques in Web Hosting. The participants who attended the workshop were really benefitted and gained knowledge on how to develop and host a website.

A Two Day Hands on Workshop on Python(Programming Tool for Data Science) was conducted on 3rd and 4th August 2018. The workshop was hosted by the Department of Computer Science & IT in association with the Computer Society of India (CSI). The Two-Day workshop was handled by Mrs Rajalakshmi V R and Mrs. Leena V., Asst. Professors, Department of Computer Science & IT. Around 65 participants registered and took part in the two day workshop. The workshop encompassed of live demonstrations and practical sessions.

The Department of Computer Science & IT in association with the Computer Society of India [CSI] conducted a Vidyamritham Session on “Machine Learning & Deep Learning” on 3rd August 2018. The session was handled by Sri. Amrit Krishnan, Ph.D. Scholar at IIT, Kharagpur. The session gave an overall insight on the various concepts of Machine Learning as well as Deep Learning. Amrit is an Alumni of Amrita Vidyalayam, Kochi.

CSI Student Branch, Kochi Chapter of ASAS, Kochi, conducted a “Logo Jumbling” competition on 3rd August 2018. Around 240 students from various departments participated. The event was conducted at two different venues. The prizes are as follows:

Session on Research Methodology

One day Workshop

The Department of Computer Science & IT in association with the Computer Society of India (CSI) organized a session on “Research Methodology” for the PG (MCA LE) final year students on 18th July 2018. The session was handled by Ms. Kavya Johny, Research Scholar in Computer Science and IT, which gave an overall idea about how to write an effective research paper and to publish the same in a Scopus indexed journal.

A Two Day Hands on Workshop on Deep Learning was conducted on 22nd and 23rd February. The workshop was hosted by the Computer Science & IT Department in association with the Computer Society of India [CSI] and Amrita Centre for Research and Development [ACRD]. The Two-Day workshop was handled by Sri. Pankaj Kumar G., Asst. Professor at Federal Institute of Science and Technology who is a renowned expert in the various areas including Deep Learning. 32 participants registered and took part in the two day workshop. The workshop encompassed live demonstrations and practical sessions.

CSI Tech Fest

The Department of Computer Science and IT along with CSI student branch of ASAS hosted a two day CSI Tech-Fest “ANUVARTAN 2K19” on 6th and 7th of February 2019 at the Kochi Campus. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Amith Sasi, CEO of PinPark Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Kochi along with Dr. U. Krishnakumar. The two day event had various competitions such as Fix Me, Guess Me, Let us Code, Let us Design, PuBG, Technical Quiz and so on. Various students participated from outside and inside the college. A two day exhibition was also conducted along with other events. The exhibition had Working Model as well as Still Models. Students were awarded Certificates and Cash Prizes.

The session was handled by Mr. Kanu Aravind, Head of the Digital Innovation unit at IBS Software. The session gave an overall insight on the various aspects of Artificial Intelligence.

The 6th semester Integrated BCA-MCA students participated very actively in the event ‘Amrita BIT’ organised by the Computer Science & IT department. The event is a new methodology of evaluating projects completed by the students and showcasing them . The students were given an opportunity by the department to present their work to staff and students. Multiple panels of staff members evaluated their project work in a very objective manner on several predesigned parameters.
